Description: Initiated in 1992, the primary goal of the Atlas Florae Europaeae (AFE) Database project is to make plant distribution data available in digital format. Currently, AFE includes "preliminary maps for all European vascular plants" (based on the time period 1972-1996), examples of distribution statistics (colorful summary maps), and Biogeographical analyses; digital data are expected in 1999. PC users can download an evaluation copy of the current database (which will be available for sale in 1999) on-site.
