Publisher: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
Description: The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) supports teachers "to ensure equitable mathematics learning of the highest quality for each and every student through vision, leadership, professional development, and research." The Math Forum at NCTM YouTube channel is one of the many ways that this organization strives to meet this mission. Here, mathematics educators can find a number of conference presentations of interest. Most of the presentations are by teachers and are for teachers, administrators, and policy makers. One of the most recent additions to the Playlists section is a series of short talks from the 2017 Ignite Talks at NCTM. Each of these five minute lectures addresses a different aspect of mathematics education. For example, math educator Doug O'Rourk discusses the importance of peer collaboration and support in teacher professional development, while elementary school mathematics curriculum coordinator Brian Bushart talks about how teachers can support students by designing better - and fewer - story problems. Other videos include a series of geometry instruction videos and tutorials about how to use the resources available on NCTM's website.
